The Cove – Save the Dolphins

I was finally able to see the movie “The Cove” tonight on Animal Planet.  It is both tragic and inspiring.  I am not going to bother reviewing the film.  I will simply say see it!  You will never go to a Sea World or other dolphin show again.

A new series “Blood Dolphins” begins Friday, September 3rd and then the following Friday, September 10th at 9 pm on Animal Planet.

The Cove will be repeated on Planet Green Network, Monday August 30th at 6 and 9 pm and Saturday, September 4th at 7 and 10 pm.

If you care about these beautiful mammals, possibly more intelligent than humans, don’t miss this chance to see what is happening to them and what we can do about it.

I never felt “brave” enough to go watch “The cove” – I have the feeling that I wouldn’t stand it.

I understand your intrepidation Dreamfalcon. I didn’t know if I could stand it either but it was well done and very powerful. There are tearful parts and footage that will make you want to scream at the top of your lungs, but I think everyone should see it.

I think it motivates all of us to do something to stop the needless slaughter.

Great film. Although it is incredibly saddening, we need to know what is happening before any action takes place.

Thanks for spreading the word and you are so right about not ever wanting to see a dolphin/orca show again. I cannot stand that these incredibly smart mammals are kept and made to perform in such places…and it is the reason I first refused to go so many years ago.
The movie just reaffirms that I have made the right decision.

With all the burrowing owl stuff going on I have neglected my ocean conservation/blog activities and after your post I need to get back into the swing of things. I actually haven’t posted anything about this dolphin issue and was wondering if you’d be interested in writing up a a few comments or a guest post for thrivingoceans.org?

And by the way…Ric O’Barry (‘The Cove’ and ‘Blood Dolphins’) operates his project under Earth Island Institute. Thus, we’re family now that our burrowing owl project has been approved!

    @Kazimierz it is very saddening

@Scott it not only saddens me but horrifies me at the same time, what’s happening with all sea creatures but the intellectual capacity of sea mammals sets them so far apart from the rest.

I believe that they are more intelligent than we are and once we break the language barrier we will discover just how smart they are.

I was overjoyed to find that Ric O’Barry was under the Earth Island umbrella and know that we are in the best of company. I will talk to you about thrivingoceans.org, thanks!

    Hi Larry,

I’m interested in learning more about the plight of the dolphins, but I’m better off reading about it. The movie experience would just leave me in a blubbering heap and I would be no help to anyone. From the press that The Cove has received, I have a pretty good idea about the atrocities visited upon them.

Glad to hear that all is going well with the burrowing owls. Kudos to you and everyone involved for helping to make a difference for those precious little owls.

@Amber you are right about actually watching these beautiful sentient creatures being slaughtered. The experience will clean out your tear ducts like nothing else you may encounter.

I am so glad to see the plight of the dolphin finally getting some press. I think we are gaining some headway on this front.

I too have recently seen this documentary. It’s a must see for anyone interested in marine conservation, environmentalism, or simply fascinating stories of selfless human action. It raises awareness of one of the countless environmental issues we face in our modern world.
